Legend of iGEMism

A long time ago, when microscopes were not there, when pipettes didn' intake plasmids, millions of living organisms were in living in harmony, happily sharing the same planet. Everything was in balance, everything was great but this would not last long. Humanity would start exploiting nature and distrupting balance. Trees were cut down, ecosystems were torn apart.

The acts of humans tempered the balance as well as the microorganisms in the world. Angered as a result of the acts of the human race, the microorganisms started a campaign against humanity. The campaign was aiming to exterminate the careless human race once and for all. These microorganisms would contaminate a humans body and cause diseases and illnesses distrupting the balance of the human metabolism and finally killing them.

Microorganisms dealt big blows to humans but were not successful at taking them out. Even the biggest mass murder, the plague, was not enough. With the advancements in technology and the appearing of medical sciences, microorganisms were actually being stopped of using their power. With each advancement, the micro world was becoming inferior to the macro world. Antibiotics were found, shots were injected, sterilization was done.

While the war raged on, not all of the microorganisms fought. Some even collaborated with humans in forming many of the mysteries that the human mind was incapable of solving. The microorganisms took big part in the construction of the Egyptian pyramids, that is why the mysteries have still not been unraveled. Stonehenge was actually one of the constructions of the micro-world!

Just like how the micro-world was seperated into two poles, humans also differentiated on their opinions about their companions on Planet Earth. A big group of the people believed that all microorganisms were harmful and that they should be disposed while another group believed that their creation has a big place in our lives. As years passed on, the numbers of the group that supported the presence of microorganisms increased. This group then decided to form a foundation, a foundation that will unite the micro-world and macro-world in order to show the world that the two sides can work as one, work as one to cure and prevent sickness, work as one to restore the distorded balance of nature, work as one to promote the freedom of both humans and microorganisms. This foundation was named iGEM.
