Safety
- All procedures were carried out in a clean area. This area was set up as detailed below, and ensured that no external microorganisms contaminated plates or tubes.
- Bunsen burners were on at all times, such that a updraft was always present.
- Prior to any procedures taking place, the entire area which was to be used was scrubbed down with antiseptic.
- All waste was disposed of in separate, marked bins. The contents of these were then incinerated.
- Antimicrobial hand wash was systematically used upon entering and leaving the lab to ensure no genetically modified microorganisms could be released outside of the one projects labs in which procedures were carried out.
