This is a template page. READ THESE INSTRUCTIONS.
You are provided with this team page template with which to start the iGEM season. You may choose to personalize it to fit your team but keep the same "look." Or you may choose to take your team wiki to a different level and design your own wiki. You can find some examples HERE.
You MUST have the following information on your wiki:
  • a team description
  • project description
  • safety information (did your team take a safety training course? were you supervised in the lab?)
  • team attribution (who did what part of your project?)
You may also wish to add other page such as:
  • lab notebook
  • sponsor information
  • other information
REMEMBER, keep all of your pages within your teams namespace.
Example: 2013hs.igem.org/Team:Consort_Alberta/Our_Pets

11 students, and one supervisor make up the Consort iGEM team. Being in the middle of no where, 3 and a half hours away from the nearest University, it's tough to get all the supplies we need when it comes to lab equipment. We not only took on the challenge of genetically engineering E.Coli, but we took on the challenges of building our very own lab from the ground up, design, HTML coding, and most importantly, synthetic biology. Before iGEM, we didn't even know there was such a thing as "Synthetic Biology", so we were completely oblivious to the concept of genetic engineering (and we still are)

Tell us more about your project. Give us background. Use this as the abstract of your project. Be descriptive but concise (1-2 paragraphs)

Consort School Team

This is our first year in the competition. Our class heard about this competition in late November from our Biology teacher, Gerry Bourassa, when he returned from a Science Conference. The class started brainstorming ideas for our project right after we signed up in late January. After which we

Project

Our focus during this project has been to construct E. Coli to detect Xylene, an aromatic-hydrocarbon. Our bacteria will do this by producing a protein named xylR, which in the presence of Xylene will produce a Green Florescent Protein.

... This is going to take forever. Who is going to work on it?

WHAT HAVE WE DONE?

Safety

What safety precautions did your team take? Did you take a safety training course? Were you supervised at all times in the lab?

Meet The Team

Consort is a small town on the eastern side of Alberta, Canada. Each member of our team is in our Biology 30 course, and is striving for a new experience such as iGEM. This competition is enriching our education while having a fun time doing it. Here is a link if you would like to meet our team.

Fun Facts!

Our Team members have a variety of activities we do for fun. Some of them include sports- such as Basketball, Golf, and Hockey. Other things involve reading, learning and writing stories.
