Introduction
Purpose
Create a synthetic measurement toolkit for the precise quantification of UV radioactive radiation. (toolkit :simple. cheap and highly sensitive)We developed a biological system in E.coli which can detect a broad range of UV-radiation doses . we choose RecA as promoter and wintergreen odor biosynthetic system as reporter. When this toolkit irradiate by sun, When it has a sense that the UV rays exceed a certain numerical value. RecA will be initiate,it’ll leading the SOS response then the wintergreen odor biosynthetic system will action—people can smell a special odor. This special odor can warn people in order to reduce the harm that exceeding dose UV radiation bring to human.
UV radiation and radioactivity are two natural radiation types we get in contact with every day
In low doses, UV and radioactive radiation are mostly harmless to cells ,besides, people can supplement vitamin D from UV radiation.
UV radiation can:
- Weaken the immune system of human
- Increase the risk of skin cancer, cataracts
- Make a depth damage in gene
Recently, due to artificial chemical substances such as CFC (Freon) continued destroy the ozone layer. UV increasing the threaten to human.
Project
We assembled a complete wintergreen odor biosynthetic system by combining the salicylic acidand wintergreen odor generators .catalyzes the conversion of the cellular metabolite chorismate to methyl salicylate or wintergreen odor.

Outlook
Our ultimate objective is to design a beautiful and practical product, this product has the doll shape. The doll has our designed biological system inside. When this toolkit has been irradiate by sun suring a long time people can smell a special odor that made by the wintergreen odor system.
