This is a template page. READ THESE INSTRUCTIONS.
You are provided with this team page template with which to start the iGEM season. You may choose to personalize it to fit your team but keep the same "look." Or you may choose to take your team wiki to a different level and design your own wiki. You can find some examples HERE.
You MUST have the following information on your wiki:
  • a team description
  • project description
  • safety information (did your team take a safety training course? were you supervised in the lab?)
  • team attribution (who did what part of your project?)
You may also wish to add other page such as:
  • lab notebook
  • sponsor information
  • other information
REMEMBER, keep all of your pages within your teams namespace.
Example: 2013hs.igem.org/Team:Lambert_GA/Our_Pets

You can write a background of your team here. Give us a background of your team, the members, etc. Or tell us more about something of your choosing.

Team

We are the Lambert High School iGEM team. We are Georgia's first high school iGEM team. We come from Forsyth County, Georgia, just outside Atlanta. This is the first year that our school has had an iGEM program, and we are very excited to be part of this group. Our instructor is Mrs. Janet Standeven, who teaches biology and environmental science at Lambert. We are also being sponsored by Dr. Mark Styczynski at Georgia Tech's Chemical Engineering department.

The members of our iGEM team are very enthusiastic about biotechnology and molecular engineering. We are glad to have the opportunity to gain experience in these ever-expanding fields as high-schoolers and to have been able to work in doctorate labs at the prestigious Georgia Institute of Technology.

Project

What are you working on this semester?

This might be the project, if not delete info.

Our project is to genetically modify cells to aid humans in danger. We, at Lambert, are going to modify special enzymes in cells that notice the presence of carbon monoxide. Once the cell has been notified that there is carbon monoxide in a given area, it will excrete chemicals to produce colors.

Why Cells?

Cells are magnificent organisms! They are composed of organic materials and are the basic units of life. Cells have certain characteristics that make them great for usage. They are small in size, thus people wont have to use gigantuan machines.

Why do this project at all?

Many elementary, middle, and high schools lately have been reporting carbon monoxide poisoning. Lambert_GA is trying to create a reliable and simple solution to that problem. Having these indicators can greatly reduce the number of injuries and mortalities that have been caused.
