Monterrey, Nuevo León, México - Return

Monterrey is a city located in the northeast of Mexico, in the state of Nuevo León. Even though it is located in the middle of a deserted zone, it was founded in 1596 because people found waterholes. Nowadays, it is mostly known as an industrial city and is one of the most significant cities in Mexico. Eventhough it is not located in the city, most people relate Monterrey with “Cerro de la Silla”, because it’s probably the most important symbol of the city.

CIDEB, UANL - Return

Centro de Investigación y Desarrollo de Educación Bilingüe (CIDEB) is one of the high schools that are part of the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (UANL). It’s located in the southern area of Monterrey in Campus Mederos. It offers three programs: the bilingual program, the progressive bilingual program, and the international baccalaureate program. These three programs are mostly given in English, and each of them works slightly different one from another.

This year, students from the three different programs joined the team. Most of us didn't know each other, and we were probably never going to, for we normally become friends with people who are in our same high school program. But since we all shared a great interest for synthetic biology and the contest, when we heard about the iGEM team, we began opening our circles to new people. We are now finishing our last semester of high school; most of us are from 4th semester, but two of us are from 6th. We became friends in the past few months, and we are now leaving an amazing, brand new experience behind.
