NCSSM iGEM
The North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics is proud to participate in the iGEM competition for the 5th year in a row. This year, the NCSSM iGEM team set out with a goal to build on the success and experience of last year's team. With that in mind, students from last year's NCSSM iGEM team began an iGEM seminar- a class that meets once or twice a week and focuses on development of skills in a more specific area than the typical curriculum. Throughout the seminar, which lasted 10 weeks, students became familiar with using synthetic biology software such as Tinkercell, and then paired into groups to develop project ideas. The seminar also provided instruction for common lab procedures that were used later on. From the seminar, several students were chosen to represent NCSSM in the High School iGEM competition this year. They began working in mid-January to design this year's project, and worked in collaboration with faculty sponsors and former team members throughout the entire process.
