Eleven students, and two supervisor make up the Consort iGEM team. We are located in Consort, Alberta and attend the local K-12 school that has 232 students overall, with around 70 people in the High-School. This is our very first year in iGEM, and being in the middle of no where, three and a half hours away from the nearest University, makes it extremely tough to get all the supplies we need when it comes to lab equipment. We not only took on the challenge of genetically engineering E.Coli, but we took on the challenges of building our very own lab from the ground up, design, HTML coding, and most importantly, synthetic biology. Before iGEM, we didn't even know there was such a thing as "Synthetic Biology", so we were completely oblivious to the concept of genetic engineering (and we still are). This has been a great experience for all of us, and we can not wait to participate in the coming years where we will hopefully know what we are doing by then. |
