Monterrey, Nuevo León, México

Monterrey is a city located in the northeast of Mexico, in the state of Nuevo León. Even though it is located in the middle of a deserted zone, it was founded in 1756 because people found waterholes there. Nowadays, it is known mostly as an industrial city and is one of the most significant cities in Mexico. Although it is not located in there, most people relate Monterrey with “Cerro de la Silla”, because it’s probably the most important symbol of this city.

CIDEB, UANL

Centro de Investigación y Desarrollo de Educación Bilingüe (CIDEB) is one of the high schools of the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (UANL). It’s located in the southern area of Monterrey in Campus Mederos. It offers three programs: the bilingüal program, the progressive bilingüal program, and the international baccalaureate program. These three programs are mostly given in English, and each of them works slightly different one from another.

This year, students from the three different programs joined the team. We are finishing our last semester of high school; most of us are from 4th semester, but two are from 6th. Many of us didn’t know each other, but the iGEM competition brought us together to design a project in which we all did something we were good at.
